Dvd burner lifetime?

Hi All!

Question is there a laser diode lifetime for DVD burners?

After sucessfully burning over 100 DVD+r’s I now get an error
and can’t record another DVD+R. I can still read DVD+R, and read and write CD’s with the drive.

I apologise if this has been posted before.

If you’re getting errors, maybe you could post an error log?

The DVD laser is obviously fine since it’s still reading DVD media, so chances are the errors are a config or media problem, which we could hopefully help you with.

Welcome to the forum

In answer to your original question, back in the Pioneer 107 days, a duplicator posted that in his experience, his assortment of drives were good for around 15,000 hours of on time before they died. Today, I would expect much less.

Thank you both.

I am still trying to trouble shot the problem and the burner is in use at the moment. DVD decryptor gave an error about power?

I have also tried my DVD burner and it failed with a power message if I recall correctely. I was wondering if the laser power intensity changes so that it can’t write ( which I assume requires more flux) but can still read. The scientist in me …

Thanks again for help/advice. I will post error messages from other programs if I don’t get anywhere.

prior to the dvd writing error, I was using Nero to backup my drive to a removable drive, …?

Ok, I need to read over what I write. (I am shot)

my DVD burner (default) refers to sonic DVDrecord that came with my dell laptop.

The error it provides is not at all helpful to me. I have tried other DVD brands, ones that worked in the past (from the same spindle)

the advanced error output is as follows:

Sense: 03 ASC: 73 ASCQ: 03 (Command 2A)

I am a pretty ignorant user. so please use newbie lingo.
