JVC selects LSI Logic DiMeNsion DVD recorder processor for its recorders

JVC becomes first Japanese consumer electronics
manufacturer to deliver a DVD recorder product based on the DiMeNsion 8600 -
Single-chip DMN-8600 offers high-quality video and unique features, such as
Digital Video (DV) camcorder support.

LSI
Logic Corporation today announced that JVC
(Victor Company of Japan, Limited) has selected the LSI Logic DiMeNsion(TM)
(DMN-8600) DVD recorder system processor for its all-new dual-format DVD-RAM and
DVD-RW recorder, the DR-M1. JVC becomes the first Japanese consumer electronics
manufacturer to adopt the DMN-8600, addressing the needs of consumers who seek
the very best digital home entertainment experience. Based on the LSI Logic
DoMiNo(TM) architecture, the DMN-8600 is the world's first single-chip DVD
recorder system processor that reduces cost, design complexity, and
time-to-market through its high level of system integration, and delivers a rich
feature-set including the industry's highest-quality video. The DR-M1 will be
available this month in Japan and Europe.

"JVC values its long relationship with LSI Logic
and their ability to deliver products for demanding, yet cost-sensitive,
consumer electronic applications," said Mr. Shingo Kawata, vice president of AVM
Company, JVC. "The high level of integration of the DMN-8600 reduced our system
component count, and consequently, system cost without compromising quality. By
leveraging the DMN-8600's proprietary de-interlacing and video filtering
technologies, we can provide the industry's highest-quality video on our DR-M1.
LSI Logic has successfully brought technologies into the mass market that were,
up to now, only available in high-end professional products. Consumers can now
cost-effectively create crisp, near-broadcast quality video recordings of their
favorite TV shows that are superior in quality to existing analog recording
technologies."

JVC's DR-M1 records on DVD-RAM, DVD-RW and DVD-R
disks in DVD-Video or DVD-VR formats, and plays DVD-Video, DVD-VR, VCD, MP3,
JPEG or audio CD disks. The DR-M1 has the ability to time-shift (simultaneously
record and playback) television programs on DVD-RAM disk allowing users to
pause, rewind, or instantly replay live television. The DR-M1 also enables users
to connect digital camcorders through the high-speed IEEE-1394 connection and
digitally transfer personal video content from the camcorder to a DVD disk.

Additional advantages of the DMN-8600 include an
integrated DV codec, fifth-generation MPEG A/V codec technology, and innovative
video processing technologies like TrueScan(TM) Pro and TrueView(TM) Pro. The
DMN-8600 also performs all audio processing tasks, supporting, among other
things, industry-standard Dolby Digital® encoding and decoding, and DTS
decoding, 3D audio effects, and bass management functions.

"JVC is a leading consumer electronics manufacturer
with high standards of quality and innovation," said Umesh Padval, senior vice
president and general manager, LSI Logic's Broadband Entertainment Division. "It
is very exciting to see the DMN-8600 designed into JVC's DVD-recorder. We are
leading the industry with a single-chip DVD recorder processor that has
integrated an impressive suite of capabilities. DoMiNo's scaleable architecture
will offer JVC many possibilities for exciting products in years to come."
