Duplicated 'Titles' on LOST DVD?

This is driving me mad.

I am making a backup of my LOST dvds using DVD Shrink.

Using the Re-Author mode I can see there are titles: 1, 3, 4, 5, 10, and 11.

But titles 1 & 3 and 4 & 5 appear identical. There are only 4 episodes on the disc. I don’t understand what is going on.

I’ve ripped title 1 as i.e. VTS_01_1.VOB and title 3 as i.e. VTS_02_1.VOB, and previewing them, they are identical. Same size, same length, same camera angles, both 6 channel.

(I know there is a DVD Shrink sub-forum but I guess this is not an issue specific to DVD Shrink so I put it here. Searched everywhere , Google, many forums, can’t find anything relevant.)

Thanks in advance.

They have shared cells. They may be the exact same video, but different command navigation structures. Don’t sweat it - just grab the ones you want. I’ve seen DVDs with 3 titles per episode. It’s not unusual.

so why is this done…just to fill up the dvd?

No - it usually adds no space to the DVD. In eisodic disks, it might be that one set of eps plays a sequence to “play all eps”, while the other plays a single ep then returns to the menu.

Other times, you see this sort of thing used to branch between titles.

Legend, Thanks Blutach !
