Duplicate MID Codes

[qanda]This thread is about the Pioneer DVR-115. Click here to see full specs[/qanda]Is there a problem with MCSE in that it shows there are 3 MID codes for RICOHJPN-D01 and 2 MID codes for RITEK___-S06?

RICOHJPN D01
RICOHJPN D01 2.4x
RICOHJPN D01 8x,6x,4x,2.4x

RITEK___ S06
RITEK___ S06 12x,10x,8x,6x,4x,2.4x

All of the other entries are unique except for those. When I went to swap the RICOHJPN-D01 which has no write speeds with RITEK___-S06 that does, I end up with 4 RICOHJPN-D01 entries. Swapping either of the other two RICOHJPN-D01 entries with the RITEK___-S06 seems to work properly, but when I try to burn a RICOHJPN-D01 disc, it still only shows an 8x maximum burn speed. If I rename the other duplicate MID entries, then the disc isn’t recognized by the burner.

I had no problem swapping entries on my LG GGC-H20L, but it doesn’t seem to work with on this Pioneer DVR-116 with firmware 1.09 (at least with the 2 entries I’m trying to swap anyway).

Can you help explain why it isn’t working?

TIA for any help you can provide.

Sorry, this post should be in the MCSE/Pioneer thread. Maybe someone can move it.

These MIDs have different revisions.

RITEK S04-066
RITEK S04-001

RICOHJPN D01-001
RICOHJPN D01c

for example. That’s my guess why they show up multiple times.
All should be supported at 8x speed, I think its a bug from MCSE.

Some MIDs occure several times in the media table. One of the RITEK___ S06 entries is not referenced in the firmware burn strategy table, so MCSE can display no writespeed.
The RICOHJPN D01 entry without write speed was found in a firmware debug message by mistake and will be discarded in the next MCSE release.
The firmware seems to use the speed class info from the disk to limit the write speed, so 8x disks do not work at the speeds of a 16x disk.
Which maximum write speed to you get when swapping RICOHJPN D01 with MKM 003 ?

I’ve tried it with the 216 1.09 firmware, but nothing changed for the write speed, still 8x max.

Post the ADIP info of the disk, including the 256 byte hexdump with DVDIdentifier.

Thanks for the info ala42. I thought there might be something else keeping it from working. I was hoping it would be as easy as swapping the codes like I did with my LG GGC-H20L to make RICOHJPN-R03 discs burn at 16x instead of 12x. At least those will burn at 18x on the Pioneer DVR-116 without any swapping.

Pioneer’s official PDF list of Version 1.09 MID codes (http://wwwbsc.pioneer.co.jp/product-e/ibs/device_e/pdf/DVR116_109.pdf) is missing several of the entries you listed by reading the table. It only shows one entry for RICOHJPN-D01.

The result of swapping RICOHJPN D01 with MKM 003 is the same as Womi. I still only have 8x max writing speed.

The RICOHJPN-D01@MKM 003 swap works if you swap the 8x entry with MKM 003 and also rename the 2.4x entry, e.g. from D01 to D91.

Thanks for the info. That swap combo works great. PIE and PIF errors are much lower with that strategy than with the default.
