Dual layer with NEC 2500A (OEM)

I am a little confused with what i have been reading. Am i right in saying that you can get the 2500 drive to write dual layer (8.5gb)? If this is the case, please explain how. I am very new to this but would appreciate any help.

There is a firmware based on the nec2510 (which is dl writer) that you can update on 2500. It is posible because the 2500 and 2510 is identical besides the firmware it comes with.

Hi,could you tell me where to find this firmware update from NEC 2500A to 2510?

I’m not sure if you are aware of this, but you also need Dual Layer (DL) capable media which is VERY new, so it is hard to find and costs a lot of $.

So you cannot take a DVD-R or DVD+R off your spindle and burn it dual layer just because you used the new firmware. You need the “hacked” dual-layer firmware on your 2500 drive, and DVD+R DL media.

Just wanted to make sure this was said, because it was unclear if you were aware of this. Sorry if I am stating the obvious to you.

thanks for your help everyone.
