Dual layer burner?

Hi Moldat,
all modern RW drives support DL media burning.
You do not need any special DL burner.

right, so in that case i have a bigger problem,
im trying to burn somthing, any thing, everything, on a dual layer disk, i tried nero, i tried alcohol 120%, i tried clone CD and i tried dvd decrypter,
i tried all 4 on 3 defferent PC’s, and it just, dosent work

what happens is, in nero, This:

even tho what im trying to burn is 5 GB and the cd inside the drive is a 8.5

You should uninstall/turn off Alcohol 120%, Daemon Tools (and other virtual drive apps) and use a better DL medium (lower grades of CMC DL media are very crap) - Verbatim.

hmm, i just tried removing all virtual drive stuff, even restarted etc
still the same thing, dosent burn

im using a TEAC media… so i donno… but i mean, it should atlist TRY to burn it, maybe come out crap. but it has to burn it right?
i dont want to buy good media just for it not to work again…

Rather than uninstalling the virtual drive stuff, it would have been better to change a setting within them - in Alcohol this would have been in Settings -> Emulation, and uncheck “Ignore Media Type”.

When you uninstall them, they can leave behind all sorts of stuff that’s difficult to identify.

Your best bet now would be to try some Verbatim, as suggested.

Hi Moldat: Something else to think about:

What version CloneCD do you have? According to the Slysoft changelog:

"CloneCD 5.3.1.3 2008-06-13

• Fix: Version 5.3.1.2 was broken, it could not write to
  DVD media at all.
• Some minor fixes and improvements"

So… i donno, tried on a deferent pc… and it kind of worked,
keyword = kind of
i tried 2 times, on clonecd and DVD Decrypter,
when it gets to 50% it just… stops :
but atlist it started burning…
so whats the problem now?

I’d say, if it even stalls on a different PC, then there’s a very good chance the media is to blame

Yes the media, and besides that I don’t believe your drive supports DVD+R DL media,try DVD-R DL
Check product specs for media supported…
And DL Verbs are what most recommend around these parts,time and time again!..And I’d burn them with IMGBurn,and don’t write at max speed…
And if all fails , get a better burner…JMHO!

Also. As jeff53404 mentioned, it’s well worth updating CloneCD even if the media is the culprit here, to avoid any possible other problems.

And the AD-7170A does indeed support +R DL, at 8x max.

I see where it states DVD +R9,I guess thats it…
Is this from having used it ,or product specs or after firmware upgrade?

Yeah, CDRinfo’s specs are a tad misleading, listing DVD-R DL, and rather than listing DVD+R DL, they’ve decided to call it DVD+R9 - they should have stuck to one description for both - and +R DL
