The official DRM abbreviation stands for “Digital Rights Managementâ€, which is an access control technology that content providers supposedly use to try to prevent unauthorised copies/use of their content.
Of course as we’ve all seen, DRM seems to do all but that. Piracy continues on, while DRM often prevents people genuinely being able to copy or restore backups of their content. Sure we even have forums dedicated to dealing with it, as anyone who has dealt with a DRM problem is well aware of just how evil it can be.
So for the fun of it, how many abbreviations can we can come up that would better describe DRM?
Probably the most common unofficial one is Digital Restrictions Management (some info here.)
The best one I can think of is Digitally Ruined Music
Here’s a small list of other abbreviations I can think of:
[li]Digitally Ruined Movies[/li][li]Dodgy Restrictions Management [/li][li]Disallows Recoverable Media[/li][li]Disabled Recorded Music[/li][li]Digitally Ruined Media[/li][li]Darn Restrictions Mandatory[/li][li]Digitally Ruined Mess[/li][li]Digitally Restricted Menace[/li][li]Does Require Money[/li][li]Digitally Robs Me[/li][li]Does Require Magic[/li][li]Don’t Remaster Me[/li][li]Digital Ripoff Music[/li][/ul]
Can anyone else think of any (more interesting) abbreviations?
Let’s create the longest unofficial comprehensive list on the Internet.
