Drive stuck in PIO mode

Hi... im new and not clued up... dont even know if im posting on the correct thread...my burn speed dropped... so i asked on other threads about this.. it lead me here... Ive checked thru device manager my primary drive is fine but my secondry drive is stuck in PIO mode... ive tried to change it back to DMA.. but It wont let me... the next step is to uninstall the secondry driver... but I dont really know what Im doing??????????????I dont even know how to paste results.. ie...

IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers

primary IDE channel.
secondary IDE channel
Standard dual channel PCI-IDE controller..

can someone help....

Hi... Ive done all those things..... and it wont let me change it.... I was considering uninstalling secondary driver... but im afriad, because I dont know what contoller my OS is on... please help.

It is on the primary one, unistalling the secondary one and then checking for changes will reinstall it again with DMA Mode or you select PIO Mode and then reboot, then select DMA Mode if available then reboot and that should work.

Can you post a Nero Info tool log so we can have a look at your system. If you have Nero go to Nero Tool Kit and open Nero info tool then go to configuration and click the save/floppy icon. I am not sure if you can post it as a text file as they are doing some work on the server, so you can copy and paste then wrap the selected text in

tags the # button in advanced post.

cazzyd, try with this little program. Unzip it and run - and just click yes. I think this will help you.

Hi Just wanted to let you know that the problem is fixed.... thanks again for all you help. it worked by uninstalling secondry driver!!!!!... yipeeeeeeee!

For the record, you can also uninstall the entire controller, including the primary channel where the OS is at. Windows will simply re-install everything.

My NEC 3520AW is stuck in PIO mode as well. I have:
Changed it to DMA if available mode - didn't work
Uninstalled and reinstalled the secondary IDE channel - didn't work
Uninstalled and reinstalled the secondary IDE channel again - still didn't work
Tried the utility posted by pejakm - didn't work

Any suggestions?

Or maybe try with LG as primary slave and NEC as secondary master.

The NEC drive was set to CS. I switched it to Master and LG to Slave and everything is working fine.
