Sony has just launched their promised firmware update for the BDP-S350. During the summer the company promised to launch the download and now the Japanese giant keeps its word.
Available right now the Blu-ray player adds BD-Live and better BD-Java compatibility, meaning that the Sony BDP-S350 actually becomes a Profile 2.0 Blu-ray player.
If this is the start of a new era, meaning that maybe other players will also get an update, can't be said. Based on Rick Clancy's statement, VP at Sony, you could expect the update to fully roll out. Clancy stated that he thinks Blu-ray will play a major roll in the networked era. If that is the company's goal it means they will need every Blu-ray player to be equipped with BD-Live, right?
The BDP-S350 update can be downloaded right now and according to EngadgetHD.com it will take some time due to Sony's slow servers (14.4k modem).
