Does anyone know what these are?

Hi I just found these on sale at futureshop.ca. They are 8x +R DL. Would u guys know the media code. How good are they?
Thanx.

My bet would be CMC.

Could also be Ritek or Philips-coded.

I can’t find anything at all on videohelp.com about Philips 8x +R DL.

Yep, they could also be Philips or Ritek coded, you’re right :)…but CMC id what sprang to mind for me.

Its just too bad u cant build your return defence on Media code. Although once I returned some crappy Memorex to BestBuy - yes, open and missing a few out of 50 pack. They didnt even seem to be surprised. Looks like selling trash is lucrative biz nowdays…
Arachne: I checked it there first thing. Seems to be a new product, not even on Philips site yet.

They’re CMC. I saw them instore, and the cakebox is most definately a CMC cakebox. Dolphinius_Rex is picking up a pack tonight, and with any luck he’ll post results tonight or tomorrow

CMC MAG D01? Hmm…

I thought that D01 is only 2.4X , not 8X

My HP branded CMC MAG D01 are 2.4x rated, and they can be be burned no faster than 2.4x in most my drives. IIRC the LiteOn 6S will burn them at 4x without overspeeding and 8x with overspeeding.

The cakebox is not everything, as Made in Singapore Verbatim media also can come in CMC cakeboxes.
Another wild guess would be something like a MKM 003 flavor from CMC or stuff like that…

CMC MAG D04 000 - (taken straight from the digital dolphin’s scans)

Yep that one isn’t approved by Philips (So what should it be doing in that package. (Unless philips licensing screwed up with 3 model)

And yes that one is horrible supported.

It has Playback problems at layerbreak probably because of the support.

At this moment I say avoid it all costs untill support has improved.

Even Ritek does a better job these days. At least Riteks 8x media can be used in quite some drives and is supported. Downside in Riteks case is that it’s quite normal that it works at 4x at 6x. So 8x Dual Layer I wouldn’t call it yet.

I’ll leave it to the Dolphin to put up the scans.

And for the folks who thougth MKM003 from CMC. Hmm let me say this while it is no longer a rumour that MKM is going to outsource some DUal layer media production. The outsourcing first will start with MKM001 !

Ohh and this is the output from dvd identifier for the Philips disc’s.

I hope it will be like in the 8x DVD SL days, with Singapore making jewel-cased media and Taiwan making spindled media - and not like the 16x DVD days when Singapore became exclusively next-generation DL.
Does Verbatim make BD in Japan or Singapore?

BD = Japan
HD-DVD = singapore

Aww. But as Singapore still produced High-Speed CD-RW at least until 2004, there’s some hope left.

Specifically, the outsourced DVD+RDL will be made in India by Moser Baer, and not by CMC (although this could change in the future). I am told it will start showing up sometime in November

Eww! MBI!

To Dakhaas: Will the scans be here or DD got a website?

he had a website but no more.
he’s a regular here and at CDRLabs.com
