Do slower recording speeds yield better results?

I think this is a newbie question.
If I burn a DVD-R at 2x, do I get a better recording than if I record it at, say 4x (considering I´m using a 4X DVD-R) ?

I used a DVD-R as an example, but does burning speed affect recording quality in general ? (DVD-R, CD-R, DVD+R etc)

Maybe.

No, that is not a generalization that is universally valid.
Certain high speed discs actually burn worse at low speeds…
You can determine the optimum speed to burn your particular batch of discs on your particular writer by burning & testing.
