Hello, Does anyone have any suggestions for a 52x combo drive that actually writes CDs at 52x or as close to that speed as possible? Why do they sell 52x media if there are no drives that actually burn at 52x as listed by manufactures?
52x is possible. If there is a 52x CD burner that can't ever write at 52x, report about it here. I haven't seen one.
CD burners can burn at 52x speed but only at the end, the average writing speed will be much lower.
52x is 7.6MB/sec. This is well within the realm of possibility for data transfer.
Every one of these devices, without exception, is shipped with a 40-conductor cable. What good is a device that operates at UDMA4 if the cable prevents it from ever going that fast?
The way it's wired (perhaps with other crappy devices) can often cause trouble.
As stated, the innermost part of the disc writes ... well, it starts at 8x and ramps up from there. The "average" speed will likely be somewhere in the range of 24x across the disc... which is why everything past 24x was a diminishing return.
