I have two dvd burnners , the master is a nec 3500a the slave is a liteon 1633s they are on the sec ide controller .

nec 3500a
divice type is on auto
transfer mode is on dma if available
current transfer mode is on ultra dma mode 2

liteon 1633a
divice type is on auto
transfer mode is on dma if available
current transfer mode is on ultra dma mode 4

I would like to have them both running in mode 4 but can’t figure out how or why one runs in mode 2 and the other runs mode4 ???

I have a asus motherboard p4p800 with a intel p4 3.2 mhz 1 gig of ram 3200 , on the first ide I have two hard drives both running on dma mode 5 on the sec ide I have the two dvd burnners. I have flashed my motherboard with the latest flash didn’t help … I have noticed in the bios with the liteon I have options to pick umda 1 to 4 but on the nec which is master only options for 1 to 2 I have them both on auto now… I have flashed the firmware to the latest on both nec and liteon.

Cannot change from 2 to 4. The NEC can only set to DMA mode 2.

You won’t gain anything even if you did get it on mode 4, it can’t transfer data at mode 4 speeds anyway!
