DMA On, No CDRW---DMA Off, CDRW

Ok this is something that is really puzzling me. Ok I just installed my new CDRW(40125s) under XP Pro.

IDE-1:
Master: 15gig Maxtor
Slave: 40gig Maxtor

IDE-2:
Master: 16x DVD-Rom
Slave: Liteon 40x12x48

Ok, now my problem is that when I go into device manager and enable DMA on the secondary IDE channel my CDRW disapers. When it put it on PIO it comes right back and works fine but it seems to burn slow.

Does anyone have any clue as to what is going on.

Thanx!!!

WinXP has bugs with connection modes in its IDE devices. Dropping DMA for PIO mode is a frequent occurrence and has been reported many times.

The Lite-on LTR-40125S must connect and run in DMA mode to operate normally.

Try uninstalling the IDE-2 connection and reboot. WinXP should recognize and reinstall it, while hopefully connecting your new burner correctly in DMA mode.

Thanx, Ill give it a try tonight when I get home and let ya know.

Thanx again
