DMA Issues

vbimport

#1

Hi,

Ive been unsuccesful in resolving what appears to me, to be DMA issues with Nero. My BIOS has enabled DMA. The ‘ALi Set Mode Utility’ has also enabled it on all drives. The Nero InfoTool however fails to recognise this. As a result (I believe) I have been wasting discs. In fact Nero has failed in simulating write’s as well. It gets to about 45% and fails saying “RESET OCCURRED”. I had to update my IDE Controller drivers to the one im currently using as my 160GB drive has issues with the older drivers. The current (latest) version came out in 2003/04 and hence is old enough for Nero to have sync’d with.

My drive is an NEC ND 2500A and has worked flawlessly since I got it. I was running Nero 6.something. I upgraded to v7.something in the hope that the problem would go away. It hasn’t.

Any help in reolving this would be much appreciated.

Thanks & regards,
GM

It’s quite likely that DMA is enabled, it’s just that Nero can’t always determine the status when certain drivers are installed.

The standard advice here is to delete/unistall the Ali drivers for IDE & let XP install it’s own upon reboot.

Also InCD is always recommended to be ignored, ie not installed ,as it has been known to cause issues.

#3

The ALi drivers are a must for me as the XP drivers do not work with my 160GB Hard Drive. Hence I cannot delete/uninstall the ALi drivers.

I didnt install InCD at first (default setup option in Nero) and then installed it. Had the same problem either way. Besides, Ive had these problems since Nero 6.something (no InCD then) so its unrelated to InCD.

Any other suggestions ?
