DivX to MP4 Bitrate

I have recently started converting my DivX files to MP4 using ImTOO iPod Movie Converter so I can play them on my iPods and Blackberries. My question is whether the setting the video bitrate in the MP4 equal to the bitrate in the DivX file will translate into roughly the same video quality. i.e., if the orginal DivX avi file has a bitrate of 1800 kbps will setting the MP4 bitrate to 1800 kbps produce the same video quality?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum. The MP4 is likely going to look a little worse because you’re going from a lossy format to another lossy format. If I were you, I’d take a sample or two and try different bit rates until you find one that’s acceptable to you. Action scenes and scenes with text are good samples to test an encoder.
