For most movies, What is the best setting? IE Least amount of compression artifacts.

#2

low motion is best, but only if you use a high bitrate (resulting in two/three cd’s per movie)

Well the best way is to go for a 2 pass encoding using both Low and High motion  You can do this with Nandub and with the new DivX codec (4.0) too. If you’re only going to use one go for Low motion. Even in action movies there’s always more non-action scenes than only-action ones.
