DivX Networks demonstrated its upcoming sixth generation DivX digital video format at the CeBit tradeshow. The format is expected to make its way into a range of consumer electronics devices.
The new software is slated to be released in the coming weeks and will add several new features to high-compression functionality of the codec. As it was revealed in beta versions of DivX, the new generation will introduce the format .divx, interactive menus to select chapters within a movie and multiple audio tracks. DivX 6 also includes functionality for subtitles that are enabled through the file format .xsub. The files can be edited similar to ID3 tags in MP3 files.
