"disc error" toshiba dvd players

I have used the same process over the last 2 years to backup DVDs. I have used the same media to backup over 50 DVDs.

Over the last couple of weeks, I can’t seem to play the DVD’s I back up anymore on my standalone dvd players. The players keep saying that there is a disc error. I have 2 Toshiba players, one that’s 3 years old and another that’s about 18 months old. The real kicker is that older backups, written to the same media, using the same process, play just fine.

I am currently using the latest versions of ANYDVD and CLONEDVD2. I have a PLEXTOR DVDR PX-708A (rev. 1.12). Speed is set at maximum in CLONEDVD2. Media is RITEK 8x DVD-R.

I am sick of coasters so any help would be greatly appreciated.

@ jaxxon99,

Welcome to the forum.

Are you sure that the DVD Media that you are currently using is if fact the same DVD Media that you were using previously that was producing good results? Just because the Media package LOOKS the same does not in fact mean that it is actually the same Media.

The only definitive way to identify DVD Media is by the MID (Manufacture ID and Media Code)(Example TYG02) of the DVD Media. To determine the MID of DVD Media use a utility software program similar to DVD Identifier (http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com) or DVDInfo (http://www.dvdinfopro.com) which will provide the MID of the DVD Media in question.

You could try reducing your CloneDVD burning speed to a lower speed instead of the “Maximum” setting.

Concerning Ritek DVD Media -> A while ago Ritek DVD Media was consider good reliable DVD Media but recently many Forum Members have been reporting that the quality and a quality control of Ritek DVD was very suspect. Suggest visiting the CD Freaks Blank Media Forum (http://club.cdfreaks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=33).

In many circles Taiyo Yuden Media is considered high quality reliable Media. Rima.Com (http://www.rima.com) is considered a reliable source of Taiyo Yuden Media. If you purchase your Media locally to ensure you are purchasing only quality Media only purchase Media that the package clearly states Made In Japan.

Agree here with bjkg. Ritek isn’t the best quality media.
But you shouldn’t have problems if you select a lower burning speed.
