My sound card has both Digital and Analog connectors. Some DVD recordes do not have Digital Out (the Sony 700 for one). Do I need this - and which recorders have this feature. Have Fun — Ray

You don’t need this. The audio from a DVD-Video stream is located in the same video files and when you rip a DVD they will also be ripped along with it. The audio outputs on your drive itself are only needed for play back of a disc, not for ripping.
Thanks for the reply. I am inquiring about the procedure at install of both the card and the recorder. I may wish to play the disk DVD’s from the computer.
