Are there any Digital 8 camcorders out there that can play Hi8 and 8mm that are less than $300, preferably new and not used? Thanks in advance for your replies.

Unfortunately, Sony is/was the last company making new 8mm camcorders (digital or analog). And the last Sony Digital 8 camcorder was discontinued earlier this year, leaving only an analog-only Hi8 model.
By the way, the last Digital 8 Sony camcorder made did not play back analog tapes at all. It played back only digital tapes (although it could record in digital mode on analog tapes).
So where can I get a Hi8 model new?
I have a friend who has a nice Sony digital 8 mm camcorder about four years old in like new shape that he might sell. He never uses it. It plays both digital and analog 8 mm tapes.
Post contact info for yourself if interested.
It seems that the price has gone down to a less than a couple hundred dollars. In case you’re interested, you can check out the camcorder ratings of the other brands as well, just to see if there are ones which are also suitable.
You could also buy a D8 deck if you’re only planning on using it to transfer your old Hi8 recordings to your computer or onto newer media. There should be a used one off ebay or something.
