Differences between various S202 models?

My Plextor PX712A has finally died, and I’ve been recommended that the Samsung SH-S202N would be a good replacement for my needs. I can find a 202H, but not a 202N. Is there any significant difference between the models? (All I’m looking for is a reliable DVD and CD writer with excellent DAE capabilities and the ability to set booktype on DVD+R burns).

Same question here. I can lay my hands on a SH-S202J / BEBN
No idea what the last figures stand for.

The SH-S202N has Lightscribe the SH-S202J and SH-S202H does not has Lightscribe. But I don’t know the difference between he J and H model. The specs at http://www.samsungodd.com looks identical for me

Thanks TM !!

Thanks for the info, much appreciated

Media support is different:

SH-S202J SB01 supports 322 types.
SH-S202H SB00 supports 316 types. (This might change with newer firmware releases)

Also, the maximum speed for certain MIDs is different.
Just some examples:

SH-S202J SB01:
MAXELL 003 18x,16x,12x,8x,6x,4x
MCC 004 18x,16x,12x,8x,6x,4x
RICOHJPN R03 16x,12x,8x,6x,4x

SH-S202H SB00:
MAXELL 003 20x,18x,16x,12x,8x,6x,4x
MCC 004 20x,18x,16x,12x,8x,6x,4x
RICOHJPN R03 20x,18x,16x,12x,8x,6x,4x

Michael

anyone know what is the minimal CD-R writing speed for sh-s202h?

thanks

Depends on the media!

Just try it out.

no that’s a model limitation, my nec nd-4571 will not go lower than 8x on any CD-R but the same media will go lower in a different burner

Thanks for the info.
