Unfortunately, my first post here is also a plea for assistance. I own a LITEON SOHC-5232K. Recently, the drive stopped working. I've tried uninstalling it, and even replacing it altogether with another CD-R that I own. So far, I'm not having any luck getting it to work again, nor is the replacement drive working.
The symptom is that Windows XP (Home) correctly installs the driver for the drive, but then fails to detect it. I can see the drive in Device Manager, and it's identified correctly. The replacement drive shows up in BIOS/Setup when the PC is booted, but suffers the same symptoms when Windows is loaded.
Unfortunately, short of uninstalling the drive and replacing the cables, my knowledge of how to diagnose the problem further is sadly limited. Could this be a problem with the IDE controller on the motherboard? What steps can I take to further narrow the problem down, since I know it's not the drive or the cables?
Any help anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated!
