Determining copy protection

how do you figure out what kind of copy protection a cd uses?
i downloaded a package for clonecd that lets you rip according to the copy protection; cd-mate has one built in. Please help me here because i think it would solve a lot of problems with final copied products.

thx

oh, btw, which cd-replicator is the best of these: clonecd, cd-mate, or nero?

as a replicator , clonecd is far better than the other two mentioned

for checking the protection you can use various programs…

i’ve had good successes with ClonyXXXL

Yaps is also a handy proggie http://www.cdfreaks.com/news2.php3?ID=2874
cheers

don’t know about others but, clony is fine.

does clonyxxxl also show the version of the protection?

I ahve noticed something weird. The previous version of ClonyXXL states a different protection for a cd I had than the new ClonyXXL. Does anyone else get this?

Just scanned Brian Lara Cricket CD. It just shows “Securom Old” like the earlier versions. No version number.

no actually it does, just checked it myself.
it may not show version #s for securom old

That’s true - the newest ClonyXXL is a bit strange.

That’s why i still use the previous ClonyXXL version since i mostly copy older games and programs.

Didn’t experience anything like that.

Both show the same copy protection for protected cd.

Half-Life: Opposing Force read from a Plex 1210a (also did it with a regular cdrom drive)

Clony 1.07: safedisk v1
Clony2.0.0.2: Safedisk alt
Clony 2.0.0.6: safedisk v2
Clony 2.0.1.0: safedisk v1

Not too much consistency is there?
