Desperately in need of original firmware (USD1) for SONY DW-Q58A. Please help!

Hi to all. This is specifically a plea to Inspiron 1705E users with the optical drive model SONY DW-Q58A. I inadvertently flashed a version (USY2) from rpc1.org to resolve a problem I later learned was not even related to the drive. My drive thankfully still works and burns but aside from having the orange LED light, it won’t play dvd sound. Bottom line, i am looking to restore it to its original state. All the firmware sites I have tried do not carry this particular version (I guess since it’s an OEM drive or something). Dell doesn’t have a download on their site and neither does Sony. If anyone with this exact system and drive model would be so kind as to make a backup copy of their UNALTERED firmware (USD1) I would be highly appreciative and in your debt. You can e-mail me at derrick_millin_jr@yahoo.com. Thanx again.

Hey all. Finally got my hands on the necessary firmware (UDS1) and everything’s back to normal. The file in question was posted on a Dell forum but now that link has expired. So if anyone with a Sony DW-Q58A DVD+/- RW drive happens to misflash and needs the original firmware, drop a line to my user name and I’ll be more than happen to send it to you.

Thanks again.

Artizan365, I’d appreciate a copy of USD1.

May I have one as well ? I need this to restore the firmware back to original before I could send the drive back to dell for repair.

Much thanks.

I’d need it too! May I have a copy? Thanks! [brino -AT- lifegate.it]

People, first please read about what firmware is SUITABLE for your drives before trying to flash anything to them.

Hi,

I desperately need this firmware too, it would help me out a great deal.
If anybody still has it, could you please send it to me at,

Thankyou very much in advance :iagree:

There is no USD1 firmware for a SONY DW-Q58A, there is just a UDS1 firmware.

Wow, it’s been a minute. For the past two years I have been e-mailing the utility files/firmware to others who found themselves in the same predicament. For some odd reason, it never occurred to me to simply post download links on a free storage site to the files so that anyone could grab them without requests. The epiphany has taken root!!! Below are megaupload links to the files I used to reflash my Sony DW-Q58A CD/DVD drive:

 1. neededfiles.zip

 2. USD1. zip

I hope they help you as they’ve helped me. Thanks again to all those who responded when my drive freaked.

Still, the firmware version is UDS1

I have it and sorry i didn’t see this thread

Hi art, stupid question but will these files remove the region coding on the Q58A or reset the region code change counter?
