Depressingly hideous 12x Verbatim India MCC03 RG20 on LiteOn DH20A3P

What version of Discspeed is that? The jitter reporting is rather strange in those scans, suggesting you should download the latest version:

http://www.cdspeed2000.com/

Those PIF spikes (above 10) are also very odd, suggesting there may be a problem with the burner itself. I personally wouldn’t use a Lite-On drive for archiving, but that is just my experience…

Verbatim Taiwan 16x +R MCC004 (PAP691MD101935Z95)

settings : SB/on , FHT/off , OHT/off, OS/off 8x :sad::(
Can you see any physical damage to your discs?

I’m sorry to say that you just don’t seem to be getting the good batches of discs. I can only hope that the majority of the remaining discs are good like the disc used for the OHT-on 12x burn.

No, discs looks fine, no dye spotting, scratches or anything like that :frowning:

Although I wouldn’t normally even ask something like this, can you burn the discs any better on the SOHW-832S? [Before trying, though, I’d update the firmware to VS0M from the LiteOn Global site.]

If you have any other burners that can be used to test the discs, try those as well…though it doesn’t look like it will help too much.

Also, do you have access to any other brands of discs?

Is this wise? I only ask as I crossflashed it years ago, it was an 812S before I got my hands on it lol

The only other discs I’ve got are Ridisc G05’s, I’ll give them a go too, thanks!

The 811 was the worst drive (almost non-drive) i ever saw. LiteOn at that time were fumbling and i’m not sure they quite understood what happened after cdr. If an 812 was about stable back then i still recommend any other drive on the market now.

I’d ditch the Riteks and save the time burning and other problems that may follow

Maybe this one would be ok? Or would it be alright as it thinks it’s an 832S lol

I backed up the eeprom but when I try to back up the flash I get this error:

Ok, flash size changed, I could’ve sworn that it had 2Mb flash, in fact I’m sure it did

Yeah, those drives should only have a 1MB flash size, IIRC. Not sure why it auto-detected it as a 2 MB.

But yes, the firmware to which you are trying to update should be OK.

Ok, its flashed. I’ll try one burning a +R. Cheers!

Verb 16x +R, burnt at 8x with VS0M  seems to be hanging.

Maybe flashing was a bad idea, I’ll try another at 4x

EDIT: It’s just finished, hung for a while.

Not throwing the drive out was a questionable idea for a non expert

As I mentioned here on the Lite-On DH-20A3P/H/S/L - Post your scans here page, my scans might have got worse with the XV6D firmware, if there’s anything anyone can suggest please do, I’ve been holding off backing up my data but might have to go back to XY13 :frowning:

EDIT: Other than throwing both my drives out lol. After all I’ve spent on discs & the writer I can’t afford a new one.

Why are you still testing? Your 20A3P burns were already fine at 12x with XY13 and SB, FHT, and OHT turned on. That’s as good as it’s going to get for that media.

The other burner is too old, and I wouldn’t waste time doing anything with it other than scanning.

Ok, back to XY13, I’ll clear the OPC, reset HT & learned media, cheers! I’ll give it 4 burns & post the results.

Out of curiosity have you tried any of the enhanced firmware like this?

EDIT: Been reading a little, I’ll reset the others not sure about clearing the Optimum Power Calibration so I’ll just do the others & see what it’s like

Flashed back to XY13 , reset HT & learned media.

Verb16x -R MCC03 RG20 (SB/on , FHT/on , OHT/on, OS/off), iso of vid 4484Mb, I burnt 4 discs at 8x with ImgBurn (scan of the 4th disc):

http://club.cdfreaks.com/f44/lite-dh-20a3p-h-s-l-post-your-scans-here-222747/index23.html#post2163191

I then burned 4 16x +R discs at 12x also with FHT & OHT on:
http://club.cdfreaks.com/f44/lite-dh-20a3p-h-s-l-post-your-scans-here-222747/index23.html#post2163193

It seems to me that the burns have got worse on the +Rs since I flashed to XV6D, I’m thinking of taking these discs back :frowning:

Looks like you should continue burning these at 8x … which is something I almost always do, since it tends to eliminate the worst of the quality differences between good, mediocre and bad blank discs.
