Deperate Help Needed! DVD Movie Burning Problems

Hi Everyone,

I have been having problems for a very long time with my DVD burner when in comes to burning DVD movies. Some of the time I go to burn DVDs and no problems occur, its fine. However, most of the time when I burn a DVD the program fails.

Let me give you specs first, I am using Nero 7 Ultra Burning Software, usually through DVD Shrink, with a Philips DVD8801 Burner. I have Windows XP.

For example I go to burn Prison Break discs, disc 1 and 2 both fail with Nero saying I have an invalid write address.

I have tried everything, I have replaced my burner, used three different types of media, updated Nero 7 and I am very frustrated. :a Thank you so much for helping me.

If there is some log of your burn, it would be helpful to post the full log here, so someone ultra-familiar with Nero 7 and Shrink can tell you what may be the culprit.

BTW Andrew007, welcome to CDFreaks.

Ok, Heres the Log when I tried to burn Scream 3 using DVD Shrink, burning with nero. Thanks again.

Seems to be related to bad media.

What mediabrand do you use.

Read the the thread about fake Taiyu Yuden media. http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=112854

DiskPeripheral : Maxtor 7L250S0 nvatabus Port 2 ID 0 DMA: Off
CdRomPeripheral : MD1959E SHU001W 1.0 dtscsi Port 4 ID 0 DMA: Off

DMA seems off for the above too.

Nope.
First drive is connected to a controller run by Nvidia drivers. Nero only shows DMA status for drives that are controlled by Windows own IDE/Atapi drivers.
The second drive seems to be a virtual CD/DVD drive (Daemon Tools perhaps), there is no such thing like DMA for these.

Nero doesn’t seem to know your drive… Are the drive’s firmware and Nero up to date? Did the drive come bundled with Nero? You can also crossflash to a BenQ 1650: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=178571 (will void your warranty).

When Nero 7 Ultra first came out I tried a copy that I downloaded and I had the same types of results. Only once in a while would I get a good burn.
When I purchased a legal copy, most of the problems disappeared.

Thanks guys, all of you for taking an interest, I have considered cross flashing my drive to a BenQ firmware because Philips has no new firmware on there site.

I Talked to people about the media and sure enough, they are fakes of the TY disc, however, I have tried philips, and maxell media.

As for the drives, the 2nd one u mentioned is a Virtual and the first one is the nvidia.

I will think about buying Nero, considering this is a downloaded copy, so ill try that.

Thanks everyone for your help

The Nero 7.2.3.2 Trial Version should work with the 8801. http://www.nero.com/nero7/eng/nero7-demo.php

I had so many problems with Nero 7 that I went back to Nero 6 and things are fine again.

Same here. :iagree:

Have you tried uninstalling the nvidia IDE drivers and using microsoft’s standard ones?
