I've a Dell Inspiron 9300 with an NEC 6650a. Upgraded to v103c firmware, then tried the 103c rpc1. Still same results... using nero 18.104.22.168 when i try to burn a Dual Layer DVD-R i get the error 'illegal disc' then something about unable to disc at once. Tried the convert tool as well. Any help would be much appreciated as this stack of dl dvd-r cost a bank.
Welcome to cdfreaks.
What's the MID of your discs.1.03 firmware only adds support for MKM-01RD30 and MCC-02RG20 DL-R9 media AFAICS.
I suggest you to get some Verbatim MKM-001 DL+R9's.
They are Ritek/Ridata dl dvd-r... was only trying them for compatibility because my sony set top player freezes on the video layer change with these Ritdata DL DVD +R's I have
No surprise, all your Ri* DLs are crap.
I've had nothing but success with Ritek... in fact they've had the best compatibility and the cheapest for use in my Xbox.
I also have an Inspiron 9300 with NEC 6650A and have same problem.
I am trying to use Imation DVD-R 16x disc and get "Illegal Disc" message, is 16x too fast for the drive?
I re-flashed the bios again with the latest firmware and had good and bad results. Seemed if I reflashed it would worked again. Anyways started using CDBurner XP Pro 3 (freeware) instead... guess what.. no more coaster... In other words Nero was the problem.
Maybe the burn were successful, test the media 1 week later and its a coaster.
Haha look how this post is... Discs R still good. I have 4 year old ritek that still plays great.
It's not the old ones that are the problem. Ritek G04/5 over the past 2 years are renown for premature failure.
Really? My Inspiron 6000 with NEC 6650A will not recognise MKM 01RD30 using firmware version 103D.
