Dell in talks with Google on Chrome OS for netbooks.

I still don’t see how a “web only” OS could possibly be superior to a traditional OS that includes all of the same features, since all traditional operating systems can access those same online resources.

I get that it will probably have much faster boot times and possibly better battery life, but I’m not sure those advantages warrant a completely restricted eco-system where you can’t install local applications for when the net isn’t available or use local applications for specialty tasks like video editing, etc.

Total Control over installed programs, and eventually content.
