is there a good tool that will do both of these...windows defrag is soooooo slow...only good registry cleaner i've heard of is registry mechanic by pc tools
There is Ashampoo Winoptimizer 4 which contains defragmenter and registry cleaner plus many more. It is very similar to TuneUp utilities 2007 (Tuneup doesn't have a defragmenter)Tuneup utilities and winoptimizer are "all in one" apps for maintaining the system. And lets not forget System Mechanic which also has registry cleaner, defragmenter plus many more.Standalone defragmenters are much better with richer set of features. I use O&O Defrag. Beside O&O Defrag there are PerfectDisk and Diskeeper. Those are three top utilities in my opinion with Diskeeper being the worst choice.
so the best thing would be to use o & o defrag and system mechanic?
Erm... no. System Mechanic used to be good before but now it's bloated and buggy. I think the best combination would be o&o defrag and TuneUP utilities.
ok thanks, i'll check out TuneUp Utilities 2007
CCleaner is free and an excellent clean-up tool.
Diskeeper is an excellent defrag tool, as is O&O. anything is better than Windows defrag.
Registry defrag and hard disk defrag are two different things.
For registry defrag, look at Registrar Registry Manager
i use O&O and registry mechanic, havent had any problems with them
A nice little program called Power Defragmenter (freeware) will let you defrag your drive, a folder or a single file.http://www.excessive-software.eu.tt/
anyone tried XP smoker or Ashampoo WinOptimizer?
XP Smoker is a tool that I would n ot recommend, it can change system files and when it deletes things, you better know what they are, if you are a professional then XPSmoker is okay, but I use O&O for my defrag and AceUtilities for my reg cleaner.
UltimateDefrag, and jv16 PowerTools.
Perfect Disk 8 - Registry Mechanic - cCleaner -eh!!
I really like RegCure as a registry cleaner. It’s a good Microsoft and Vista registry fix. It worked well for me.
