I am in the process of assembling a dedicated dvd ripping/transcoding machine. Here is what I have so far:
dual opteron 2354 quad cores
Asus KFN5-D SLI motherboard
coolermaster cosmos s chassis (10 external 5.25" bays. 7 will house optical drives and 3 will house a sata hotswap rack.
I need some help selecting the right optical drives for ripping as well as the best hard drive configuration. Ideally I would like to rip multiple dvds simultaneously using multiple instances of DVD Fab. Once all dvds are ripped I would like to set up a large que in Handbrake and let the machine work overnight transcoding the video. Speed is off the essence here so I'm looking for the fastest drives and the fastest hard drive set up. Once the video is transcoded it will be transferred to my windows home server.
After some initial reading it looks as though the Samsung burners are highly regarded. As for hard drive setup I am thinking raid 0. I'm not concerned about redundancy or data loss as the videos are not going to stay on these hard drives.
Any input/suggestions would be great. Thanks.
