If discs burnt with that drive fail in certain players, you need a drive that has a better CD-R performance, like Pioneer x16/x17 or Optiarc AD720x/AD724x series.

It’s weird because my friend Lite-On SHW-160H6S can burn same verbatim CD-R on 8x  (still not 4x eh  )
maybe its firmware related problem? i tried to modify firmware by MediaCodeSpeedEdit but only DVD-R/+R/+RW/-RW/-RAM/-R9/+R9 write speeds are possible for change…

Yes, that’s how LiteOn has designed the 20A4 drive/firmware; & you won’t be getting any burns below 16x with the decent media available today unless you switch drives [no firmware tweaks exist, and no amount of software tweaking/trickery will net you the end result of a true 4x burn]. I echo mciahel’s suggestion.

Thanks for your replies guys.

Get a Plextor Premium or even better Premium2 cd-rw burner for low cd-r burnspeeds. (don’t think nowdays crap 52x rated cd media will like this though).
Anyway, check at eBay for Plextor Premium cd burners.

On the other hand, my 12y old HP 9100i cd-rw can burn nice coasters at 1x speed on 52x madia.

Off topic.
BTW, since when is a Litey 20A4 a BenQ/Philips burner (heh, not even a Nexperia chipset drive)…
This thread better been moved to Lite-On (MediaTEK) or general CD/DVD drives forum section. :flower:
/off topic.

Michael
WHAT old drives are you refering to…?
