Hi,

Like the topic says, every time I start WinAVI Video Converter 7.7 a debug.log file is created automatically in C:\

The program WinAVI Video Converter 7.7 works fine (I think)

Here is what’s inside the debug.log:

2011-2-19 23:52:34 -- Major_----------------------- LogStart.
2011-2-19 23:52:34 -- version = 7.7 date 2006 8.10

Is it possible to stop this file from appearing automatically in C:?
Or at least to make it appear in a different location?
What you guys think?

Thanks in advance

Have you tried to uninstall it and delete the folder and reinstall and reboot and run the program yet to see what happens? Also you want to update your XP to SP3 with latest updates as well as that could be part of the problem.

Thanks for the reply coolcolors, uninstall + folder delete + reinstall + reboot didn’t help, I haven’t tried upgrading to SP3 yet, maybe that will help.

But is there a way to make this file appear in another location, for example, in the WinAVI Video Converter Folder in the Program Files?

Thanks

Have you checked the preferences or settings to see if there is box to stop creating log files except for problem errors after you get the program installed and running? That would be the next step to look at.

#5

Yes, I checked the options of WinAVI Video Converter, but I didn’t find anything related to log files inside.

#6

I used WinAVI converter in the past but stopped using since I moved to ConvertXtoDVD which was much better at conversion but I don’t recall at that time when I used WinAVI that I got such a message log as what your describing?? What O/S are you using btw?? Does that debug windows ever come up when you run WinAVI? I think that could just be something it uses for referrences to check for the program status and if it doesn’t come up that you can see it unless you go to its folder then I can surmise it is just doing it’s routine program verification and checks. If you hadn’t had any problem crop up as the result of it doing that then it is safe to say that is probably part of its runstart process it does everytime.

I have Win XP SP2.

Debug windows don’t come up, just the debug.log file is created at the moment I start WinAVI Video Converter 7.7 (you can’t notice that a file is created unless you know the location where it’s created)

So you think its possible this debug.log file to be created in another location?

#8

hmm … then the only thing I can come up is to contact their support and ask about the debug log file showing everytime you start or check their FAQ. I looked but there is nothing related to the debug log showing or how to stop it from showing. It would be best to contact their support as reading the FAQ and Questions doesn’t have a question related to the debug log file showing. But does that log file close after it runs or stays open?

#9

Well the file is just created, it doesn’t open automatically unless I go to it and open it, and it just stays there after the program is closed. If I delete it, it will create again the next time I start the program.

Then I can only surmise that is something it does to verify that the file program is running correctly. If it doesn’t pop up then I would just leave it at that then.

I see, thanks a lot coolcolors.
