Is possible to hack the LG updater to awake dead drives?

Please tell me your thoughts!

I am not sure, if it is related or not but I have GCE-8523B. I accidently erased the firmware and it wasn’t recognised by the BIOS. I used mtkflash 1.55. I only wrote “mtkflash 4 w JE8HZ103.HEX” and now it is working again!

@cagdasinan

I have a misflashed GCE 8523B CDRW
I have also got the IDE.HEX, JE8HZ103.HEX files
Mtkfash 1.55, 1.62, 1.801
MtkWinflash
win98 Rescue Boot disk (booted in Safe mode Command prompt)

I have tried your command using connecting the drive to Primary Slave. but no go. The Mtkflash programs just start and display the author name and ver no. and stop there.

How long after giving the mtkflash command do we see action ( activity of any kind ) could you specify the motherboard you have and the bios ?
I have a Intel 440BX-2 with Phoniex Bios

Any help would be appritiated as I really kinda liked my CDRW :wink:

Hi ppl…

Just wanted to tell you that I was Successful in Using MTKFLASH to resurrect my GCE-8523B CDRW.

I used MTKFLASH 1.801 In “Safe mode command prompt” in Win98
I connected the my CD-ROM drive to the secondary master and booted the computer after that I hotswaped the CD-RW to the sec Slave position The command issued to was MTKFLASH 4 W /M /H JE8HZ103.HEX It worked !!

It was not working when i booted the comp with the drv connected. But this was it works … Hope this is helpfull with anyone else with simmilar problem.

I would like to know is there is any great Difference between 1.03 and 1.04 firmware and should I risk upgrading it … Tks…

I have had bad experiences with mktflash and windows so always use it with dos only. I am still at 1.03 and it seems to work. Now its up to 1.05? [CD-ROM: GCE-8523B 1.05.002 ]… But not sure what all is new…
