Data Verification Errors After Complete Burn

Hey all, i did a search for my burner in the forum but couldnt seem to find a thread which was exactly what i am having a problem with (probably because im a noob!!!) anyway let me briefly explain the problem:

I have a couple of dvds im making backups of as they are a little old now and starting to show signs of a little scratching on them so i want to make copies on new discs before they get any worse and start jumping etc

I have the files ripped to images on my hard drive but when i go to burn them i get problems. The burn process itself completes fine and i have tried this with 3 different programs (nero most recent version, dvd decryptor and stomp record now) the problem arises when the verification process begins, it gets to about 2/3% sometimes a little more but not much and then errors out, i am at work right now so cant post a log but i will either at lunch or after work post a log of the error in a follow up. The error though from the top of my head says that the burned data does not match the original in a variety of different sectors of the disc.

My dvd burner is plextor px712a with the 1.05firmware (most recent i think)
i have tried multiple speeds ranging from 2x to 8x with 2 different types of media (maxell 8x dvd-r and tayo yuden 8x dvd-r) and also explored the possibility that it was a program running in the background which was causing it.

Nothing seems to work, please help !!!

ps the only thing i have changed recently is i switched from norton antivirus over to zonealarm with antivirus, is it possible that this could be giving me a problem?

My 2nd question is this:

What is the best media to produce error free burns with the plextor px712?
I am not too worried about price (within reason) i just want reliable backups of my dvds.

Thanks guys i appreciate any help that anyone can give me.

one other thing, would it make a difference to switch the plextor to master on the ide channel?

Currently i have it on the secondary ide channel as slave. Master is my lite on combo cdrw/dvd rom

Yo-

You are off to a good start with your burner and the Maxell and Taiyo Yuden medias (they don’t make them much better than those)-

What you do need is some decent burning software to get the movies onto disc-

Suggest that you try out DVDdecryptor and DVDshrink - both available for free - do a Google search for them-

Suggest that you look up Ghosters tutorials here in the forums (you see his postings all over the place) - they will be of great value in getting you headed in the right direction-

The way that you have your drives set up should be just fine for what you are doing-

Mike

DVD Decryptor I have tried, that was one of the programs I had the problem with, can u burn an image file once u have it ripped with dvd shrink?

ok, here is the log from dvd decryptor on one which i tried to burn this afternoon:

Here is the log from the same drive which i switched to be master on the secondary ide channel (slave was detached) this time i was using some taiyo yuden media.
Slightly different sector but it looks suspiciously similar to me.

Please can someone let me know if possible whether this is a hardware or a media problem?

Here is the nero log which I hope is more useful than dvd decryptors from what i read of it in the nero status screen as it verified though the error is the same as with dvd decryptor (burned data does not match the original)

can anyone help please??

What exactly are you burning to disc?? Ripped image files?? Its possible that you got some counterfeit disks(what is the brand name of the discs) but if you have tried several different brands then I would think that the media is not a problem. Use nero cd speed v3.61 and do a error scan and see if there are sectors that are not readable. This is different from not being the same data. Also burn a copy without the data check and see if it will copy back to your hard drive and view properly. Try burning some regular data files and verify to see if this problem only occurs with the .img files. Run make data disk and then transfer speed test from nero cd-speed which is in your nero toolkit folder to see if drive has a problem reading or writing.

I tried burning just a regular data disc last night and got the same error that the burned data does not match the original. It tells me that the burn is successful, but the verification fails and when u go to play the movie it gets to the menu starts for a couple of seconds and then just hangs…

I am starting to think it is a hardware problem, the sad thing is that i dont think i have the receipt anymore, i sent an email to plextor tech support and showed them the nero log also. Perhaps they can make some sense of it and give me a solution but i doubt it. I have a feeling this one is terminal…

Please see my new thread what dvd burner to buy and where from lmao

I have the problems with BenQ EW164B, which fails after complete burn and the DVD is blank!

Can you advise me what is the problem?

The error log is as follows:
