Strictly on its own, I must say that Memorex is quite usable, but only with the stipulation that we leave CMC MAG M01 and Ritek DL media out of the equation. If we do that, I can say I've never had a batch fail to be written within specified speeds.
I've had some ProdiscF02 discs under the brand that failed to scan with a 'typical 95% quality score', but these discs have at the same time managed to be the discs that could be oversped to 20x most easily.
I've had multiple batches of RICOHJPN R03, and here is my biggest issue. The first few discs of some batches failed to do well above 12x, with various drives' Active or Walking OPC falling back during the burn when 16x or greater was used. These have all been batches by Ritek. But the other discs have been good up to 16x and 18x.
My biggest issue is CMC MAG M01, and here I simply must compare to other brands. It's become easy for me to spot Ricoh/Ritek discs over the M01 discs, but when I still get CMC MAG M01 under this brand, it is NEVER a totally pleasant experience. The discs are usable, but M01 under other brands [Maxell, TDK] have done better. This does not apply to my experience with CMC MAG AE1 [which have been great up to 12x or even 16x], and I've not had the pleasure of using Memorex CMC MAG AM3 [in recent enough memory] or Memorex CMC MAG E01.
If I had to pretend that Memorex had no hand in the quality of disc they receive, I'd blame CMC the MOST for my distaste in Memorex DVD+R/DVD-R single layer discs. I have few/no issues with the CD-R thus far. I've avoided the DVD+R DL, but I believe I would end up blaming Ritek for the poor reputation on that front.
However, since Memorex has the option of choosing better [I've had some great MBI discs under the brand, surprisingly! And not much media outside of the CMC MAG M01 has been just plain bad], the blame must stay with them. Because of that [the fact that they just go with whatever, and don't go for the best quality] I do not recommend them/I strongly recommend against their use.
I am the only one that can tame Memorex. No one else has any business trying to use them.
