Cyclic Redundancey Checks

Are ‘Cyclic Redundancey Check’ errors solely related to scratches/dirty marks on the DVD? or can it mean some sort of protection is getting in the way aswell?

I periodically get these and looking on the disk there sometimes is a mark which will come off and then it will work. But on other times the disk seems fine but I still get the error even after cleaning it.

I’m using the latest AnyDVD and CloneDVD from the SLYSOFT site.

CRC errors mean that your drive is unable to read the disc. This could be from many effects, such as disc defects from manufacturing, scratches, smudges, etc., along with some protection schemes that your ripper is not able to handle. In order to help solve these issues, you should follow the guidelines above and give as much information as possible.
