I could well be alone with this little "problem", but I thought I'd share it anyway. Please excuse the waffly pre-amble..
I recently did a copy of "The Birds" and was annoyed to notice a glitch (a little skip in audio and video) just before the end of one chapter. Figuring it was a disc fault, I just burned another copy but got the same glitch in the same place. Tried playing on my iMac and both discs seemed fine.
So, confused, I figured there was some weird error in the copy/compress (I'm using DVDBackup 1.3 and D2OX 1.1.1), so I recut another copy from scratch (the original disc was ok). Same problem!!
On a whim, I trimmed off all the unnecessary files from my disc image and just burned it out to DVD, totally missing out D2OX. It played just fine. OK, by this point I was confused and only mildly annoyed, but I let it lie. Deep breath. <phew>
A few days later, I noticed it again, and again (Citizen Kane, Sgt Bilko) - they had the same glitch just before one chapter mark.
It was then I noticed one thing in common - all 3 discs were from Universal Studios. I tried some more Universal discs - same problem! And this problem was NOT apparent with discs from any other studio.
So, by this point I had it down to D2OX having some problem with some (not all) Universal Studio discs (for some reason!). I had tried D2OX in both Constant and Variable mode (which led me to discover that the file sizes from these two modes are not consistant - see the thread about <4.36 discs).
It then occured to me that the only ones being glitchy were the movies that were sub 4.36Gb... so, as an experiment I re-D2OX'd Sgt Bilko, but setting the output size to about 30Mb smaller than the one I'd already processed (so it actually compressed it a little).
Guess what? The glitch vanished!!!
How weird is this? Am I the only person to get/notice this? Does anyone know why it might be happening?? Any thoughts appreciated!
