C'T Media test: 4x DVD±R discs

They did this 2x / 2.4x speed test some time ago, and now they repeated their tests with 4x discs. They burned Verbatim DVD+R, Pioneer DVD-R and Ritek G04 DVD-R discs (others are not yet available in Germany).

DVD+R were written in a Nec 1100A and a Sony DRU500, DVD-R were written in a Pioneer DVR-A05 and a Sony DRU500A.

Surprisingly, all discs performed very well, with low error rates in all drives, if the latest firmwares were used. Older firmwares usually caused worse write quality (this shows how important it is that the manufacturer of a DVD burner continuously improves the firmware!), especially firmware 1.0f of the Sony DRU500A was significantly worse than firmware 1.0g with Verbatim DVD+R discs.

Ritek G04 work better at 4x than Ritek G03 at 1x (!!).

So 4x writing is safe; there is nothing to worry about. It is even much safer than 1x writing to common crap discs as Princo, faked TDKs, or even Vivastar.
