The prices of these drives are comin down to a point, close to .60cent a gb. You can buy the one without the transfer kit even cheaper. I am just wondering if they are clearing stock for a new model that is way faster and more reliable or these are the new prices.

Sorry for the dumb question, but what is the transfer kit? :o

The transfer kit includes a USB to SATA cable and Norton Ghost (Symantec’s equivalent to Acronis.)

It seems to be down to the cheaper NAND, as USB flash drives have also come down a lot recently. E.g. a few 64GB USB models are selling for around £25 on Amazon UK.

Even the 24nm toggle NAND is dropping in price as well.

Crucial are also bound to release a new SSD soon, the M4 is getting a bit long in the tooth. The new SSD will most likely be based on the Marvell 88SS9187 controller, which is more than likely very similar silicon to the Everest 2, but probably not clocked as fast.

There will soon be 19nm toggle NAND, and 20nm ONFI NAND.

Take your pick as to why the Crucial M4 is dropping in price, it could be any one, or all of the reasons listed above.

Yes, but the M4 is an excellent drive with great performance and also excellent firmware support, plus you dont have 3-5 drives with different NAND and different performance that can confuse the buyer.
