just received my 109 from newegg. now i’ve read all the posts regarding crossflashing to A09. i’m still unclear about one thing. do you use the 109 kernel and firmware with DVRupdate or the A09 kernel and firmware. i hate to crossflash incorrectly and kill the drive. just want to be sure. i dloaded both RA09_FW150EU and R109_FW150EU. just still not sure which ones to use with DVRupdate to crossflash to A09 from a 109. thanks.

Use DVRUpdate

That wasnt his Q btw.

Yes you use > DVRupdate_v0.9 and download only the A09 FW which you estract and yhen mount both its A09 FW and A09 Kernal into DVRupdate_v0.9, you DO NOT tyick the box to FIX, and make sure if your case has a front door that its open and drive tray will eject, its idiot proof you cant load FW or Kermal into wrong boxes and just do read on screen info till it says reboot and little dots stop drawing on screen, then reboot and your windows will see a new drive and install, i advise you rerun nero drive speed to see new speeds.

Before or after you reboot you can run the QuietDriveUtility.exe just to make sure its rec’s your drive as it will not work on a 109 only A09, if it shows your drive your set even though it will never be named A09.

Once I cross flashed it was a perfect drive.

From the Pioneer 109 forum

Download the 109v1.50 firmware from http://www.pioneer-eur.com/eur/down...109_FW150EU.EXE

Extract the files and delete the Pioneer upgrade (UPGR109.exe). You will be left with 2 files, R9100009.150 & R9100109.150.

Download DVRupdate 0.9 from
http://www.dvd-recordable.org/wwwim...date%20v0.9.zip

Extract DVRupdate 0.9.exe to the same folder as the 2 files above.

Run DVRupdate 0.9 and do the following:

  1. Select your drive from the ‘Device’ drop down box
  2. Select the Kernel file by clicking the folder icon to the right of the ‘Kernel’ field. The correct file will automatically be selected if you have run DVRupdate from the same folder as the R9100009.150 & R9100109.150 files.
  3. Select the Normal file by clicking the folder icon to the right of the ‘Normal’ field. The correct file will automatically be selected if you have run DVRupdate from the same folder as the R9100009.150 & R9100109.150 files.
  4. Click ‘Start’
The operation takes about a minute. Exit DVRupdate.

Reboot.

appreciate the info, but i’m still not exactly sure which firmware to use when crossflashing. one post says use the A09 kernals and firmwares, another says dload the 109 ones. i understand what to do with the DVRupdate, i just don’t know which files to use it with, the A09 or 109 150 firmware. anybody can confirm which of the two 150 firmwares you use with DVRupdate.

Download the file listed in my post and make sure all the stuff is in the same exact folder. DVR will auto populate the menu for you. Forget the A09/109 tags. That file will do what you need. Your drive will still say 109 but will act like a A09XL. Same hardware!

Just down load this file=

http://www.pioneer-eur.com/eur/down...109_FW150EU.EXE

unzip the contents into the same folder with DVR(this is not easy) you may need to copy and paste to make the files all appear in the same folder.
