The unit that I am using is the DMR-EZ485V but I suspect that the recording protocol applies to several models of the Panasonic recorders.
The documentation is difficult to understand since P* tries to cover all routines with all media types. But it has a section on creating chapters and it appears to apply only to using DVD-RAM. There also is a paragraph on creating a top menu for DVD+RW.
I'm using DVD-R and I can create chapters by stopping the recording and then restarting, but I cannot find a menu routine that allows for creating chapters within a completed, but not finalized, recording. So if you miss a stop point, it appears that you ore out of luck.
I have some workarounds like recording to DVD-RAM, creating my chapters, and then copying the RAM disc to a DVD-R, but this involves extra work and time that I'm wondering if I can avoid.
My reason for this post is that the several menu trees are context-specific and some don't show up with some media types. I'm wondering if inthe confusion of trying to follow the documentation and flying through the menus I have missed something. It seems that creating menus is a fairly basic function that should be included for users with DVD-R media but maybe not.
Let me know if I'm missing something.
