Create DVD-RAM data disc, Burn Rates and CDSpeed versions

Nero CD-DVD Speed 4.5.0 seems to work well when creating a data disc using DVD-RAM media. A 12X media burn speed is as expected (Start: 6X End: 12X). CD-DVD Speed versions 4.7.0 and 4.7.5 only burn at a 1/3 that rate (Start: 2.4X End: 4.5X) using the same 12X media on the same system. Read rates are the same with all 3 versions of CD-DVD Speed (6-12X). Does anyone know the reason why the newer versions of CD-DVD Speed do not burn at the correct rate?
I am running both Vista and XP with 2 drive vendors with the same results. These are SATA opticals, I don’t have PATA drives I can run the same test with.

Hi BitFreak, welcome to CDFreaks!

I’m guessing this could be the result of changes introduced in CDSpeed 4.7.0.0:

  • Replaced ‘Write and Verify’ option by ‘Streaming’ option

Try going into CDSpeed Options => Standard tests => Transfer Rate and change the Streaming option (I’m not sure whether it’s supposed to be on or off in order to disable the write-verification of DVD-RAM).

EDIT: Streaming enabled should be the same as write-verification disabled.

Great, that did it! Streaming was not enabled (not checked). Results now look correct!

Excellent! Problem solved.
