Just got my 2500A for £60 (inc. vat from svp) and was very pleased with my purchase until I tried to do some copying...
I bought some of the Verbatim 4x DVD-R Datalife Plus - the Mitsubishi Chemicals ones - having read that they are some of the best discs and that they work at 8x.
I was trying to copy a DVD movie using DVDShrink and made sure that the total file size was less than 4.3GB (by changing the compression to manual) having read that the last few mm can sometimes cause trouble.
When I played it in my DVD Player it played fine until the end of the film, where it started jittering madly. Putting it back into the 2500a I tried to drag the last file from the VIDEO_TS to the computer and got a CRC error. This has happened twice and I dont want to make coasters at £1 a pop.
I knew that the 2500 has some reading issues - but was supposed to be great quality writer and these dics are freshly written. Am I doing something wrong????
I let DVDShrink use Nero automatically (latest version of nero as of yesterday) It read the files perfectly - they are still in the temp folder and I can play them to the end - and seemd to write quite happily at 8x in less then 10mins. I am using the Dangerous Brothers RPC1 1.06 firmware from rpc1.org.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! DVDShrink settings or maybe different software? Is it okay to let DVDShrink talk to Nero automatically? Is the firmware dodgy?
Sorry for the huge post - but details are good, right?
