Could not perform EndTrack

Hi. I am having problems burning a cd with nero. It says it could not perform endtrack. Here is the log that i saved. If anyone could help me it would be greatly appreciated. Also… I have sometimes had problems where I will burn a cd without any errors, but when i put the cd in to read it, it comes up blank. I’m not sure whats going on but if someone could give me an idea, i’d love it. Thanks

Moracca

My Lite-On just started doing the “Could not perform EndTrack” thing last night. I tested everything I could think of – CD Copy, Burn Image, lower speed, etc. Got the error each time, “Could not perform EndTrack”. Even changed OS’s. So with the thought of What have I got to lose, since I was going to have to buy a new one anyway, I pulled it out of the computer and pulled the covers off of it. Using Isopropyl Alcohol (make sure it’s anhydrous-pure so there is no residue) I cleaned the come guides the laser slides on. Use a cue-tip or a sponge tip cleaner. Swipe only once, and change to a clean cue-tip, don’t transfer the dirt back onto the runners! When you have it clean I used light oil, like sewing machine oil. Put a small drop on a clean Q-tip and wipe it on the runners. Don’t over do it. Slide the lens back and fourth and make sure it is sliding smoothly. Don’t mess with the lens, don’t try to clean it. Don’t get any oil on it! When you are satisfied put the thing back together and re-mount it in the computer. Run a test and see if that was the problem. It worked like a charm for me!

Try updating to the latest version of Nero 5.5 and see if that makes a difference. There are quite a few bugs with earlier versions of 5.5.

I’m using nero 6 ultra on this computer but on my laptop i’ll try updating it asap I did try swapping my cd drive out for an identical one from my brothers laptop and it seemed to work without problems :[ dunno whats up. I am not anxious to try all that with cleaning the guides and such, but perhaps as a last resort i’ll give it a try. thanks

Your log says Nero 5.5.10.7…
which one is it?

sorry – the computer im at now has 6, but the log is from my laptop which is the one having problems. I’ll try updating the laptop as soon as i can. the desktop is also having problems but not the same messages i dunno, i’m having all sorts of problems and getting pretty frustrated that I cant back up data.

also – should I upgrade to the latest 5.5? or 6? any preferences?

Well so far in my experience i’ve only had this kind of error with DVD-RW discs.
Nero 6.3 has more utilities in it and is more recent, but i guess its up to you.
I prefer 6 over 5.5.
Also, on what IDE is the drive installed?

o sorry didnt see you respond right away. I’m not sure what the number is of my burning drive, but I do know that it is on the same IDE as my dvd-rom drive. Could that be part of the problem? Should I put them on seperate drives? I hadn’t heard that before, but i suppose it might make sense.

edit: oops i messed up again. That’s the setup on my desktop here. I dont know about my laptop. I had it in my bay on the left side, and tried switching it to the right, and mediocre results… still errors. My brother’s works ok tho. (?)

I’m having the same kind of problem. Here is my logfile. Can anyone please help?

Well, I started having this issue myself.

I finally got it to work, but I performed several steps all at once, and wouldn’t be able to tell you which one was the actual fix.

Ran Ad-aware and Spybot.

Did the windows uninstall of Nero 5

Ran the Nero 5 Clean tool.

Rebooted.

Installed Nero 5

Rebooted

Updated to Nero 5.5.10.52

Burned a single file, no multisesson, DAO96, and it completed.

My only qualm was that the burner’s a 40x and the burn log reports 16x.

Here’s the before log.

If anyone has any thoughts on how to up the burn speed, I’d be greatly appreciative for input.

In case the description in the log isn’t clear, the data drive is the primary slave, and the burner is the secondary slave. (cable length limitations in the case.)

FWIW, attempted a multisession (which doesn’t allow me to select write method) and it failed.

Same errors as the above failure.

i need to know how can i post a nuew message

Sigh… i suppose you can ignore all of my posts.

I got lucky on the one successfuly write. HAven’t been able to duplicate the success.

So I’m just in the same boat as y’all.

This message concerns all who have a problem with the QSI SBW-241, below are solutions and procedures to making the drive work properly. Follow each step exactly.

STEP 1: Conflicting Programs

The first step that must be done, is to remove all conflicting burning applications on your computer, leaving only the burning application that you use most often. If you use 2 or more burning applications, delete all but the one that you use most often. For example, say that you have both NERO and Easy CD Creator installed on your PC. Remove the program that you use the least, say Easy CD, and keep ONLY the program you use frequently. Even the built-in recorder for Windows XP must be disabled. To disable the Windows XP built-in recording software, right-click your cd drive icon in My Computer and select properties from the pop-up menu, go to the tab labelled Recording and uncheck the box labelled “Enable CD Recording on this Drive.” That will disable the built-in software allowing your most used CD Burning application to function correctly.

STEP 2: Media Types

The QSI SBW-241 is NOT compatible with high speed media (1-48x, 1-52x), this means that you must use media that is designed at low speeds (1-16x). Even though these media are certified only for a max write speed of 16x, they can still be written to by the recorder at a speed of 24x!!! Why does the QSI SBW-241 not write to high speed media? It is because when the drive was manufactured the only cd-r out were those with speeds of 1-16x. The drive was designed using the discs, the 1-48x and 1-52x cd-rs came much later.

STEP 3: Firmware

Finally it is essential to download the correct firmware for your drive. Be cautioned that even though Sony and HP both use the QSI SBW-241, it does not mean that they both use the same firmware. In fact Sony uses firmware for the drive of type VXYY(where the Y is a number) and HP uses the VHYY type firmware. They are different because both systems are different and so the firmware must correspond to the correct system. Using a VXYY type firmware on a HP or Compaq computer can cause unpredictable results. Below are the working firmware for both computer systems:

Brand Firmware Revision

HP / Compaq VH05 (VH04 is the original that comes with the drive and only allows the drive to use 1-16x cd-r media)

Sony VX09

These firmware updates allow one to use high speed media on these drives. If you can not find your system specific firmware, then download the firmware at http://www.qsinc.com.tw/ but note that this firmware update (VS05) is a general firmware update, it is for the base model, the firmware may not be compatible with your system or operating system (Windows XP/ 2000/ 98/ ME). In fact upgrading your firmware to a general firmware no designed especially for your PC is dangerous and can render your drive useless.

I will post more information as it becomes available.

I have pretty much the same problem. I just bought new cd writer so i am pretty much upset.

PLEASE HELP- THANKS VERY MUCH.

anyone?

Hello everyone! I am a newbie in this site and also when it comes to pc issues. Well i have been benefiting from threads like these where i get all the solutions and informations that i need, until i can’t seem to find the right way to solve my problem with the burning error “could not perform EndTrack”. Actually I have been having problems with my burner lately, the first issue that I have resolved is buffer underrun by setting the writing speed slower. With the “could not perform…” issue I have tried burning at slower speeds and defragmenting but both didn’t work. I have wasted 5 cds already. Here’s my log file. please help. Thank you so much.
