CopyToDVD Deletes Burned CD Files?

#1

I burned 544MB of data onto a 700MB CD-R (through CopyToDVD Depot). The root contained about 6 small files including autorun.exe, autorun.info, a pdf, Word, and text files, and the bulk of the data was in a sub-directory. The CD was burned as multisession and was not closed/finalized.

The CD worked fine, auto-loading when I inserted it. Later I found additional 56.6MB (24 files) that I wanted to add (mostly *.mov files). I did this through the CopyToDVD menu command by right clicking the mouse. The 2nd session burn seemed to go fine, and the CD ejected when complete.

I found the mov files had all been burned to the root of the CD as expected, but that the 6 files previously written in the root no longer showed on the DVD (erased?).

I can duplicate this problem at will, even using a CD-RW disk. I used the latest versions of CopyToDVD (4.0.1.46) and DVD Manager (4.0.1.72), and the log files show nothing apparent.

Has anybody seen this problem, or are there any suggestions on further troubleshooting??

What mode did you use to add those files?
Did CopyToDVD recognize that disks previous session?
Logs are needed, please provide them.

Mode Used?

Per Manual I used this method for both session 1 and 2 burns (previously I had used “CopyToDVD Depot” for first burn only - with same result)

[left]"Once CopyToDVD is installed, it can be accessed directly from the file browser, you can burn files and/or folders from Windows Explorer very quickly without having to run any application. Simply right click on what you want to burn and select CopyToDVD from the context menu."

Did CopyToDVD recognize that disks previous session?

According to Session 2 log (attached) it did recognize it was burning a second session.
Note: On closer inspection of the CD after the 2nd burn, I noticed that not only were the root files missing, but files from two sub-folders were also missing (although their empty directory remained). Strangely, they were the first two folders listed in Explorer - first 2 alphabetically). A total of around 28MB went missing when the 56.6MB was added on the second session.

Log files attached (Session 1, Session 2):

1/23/2007 9:24:10 AM info Writing session #2 and keeping disc writable.

If I remember correctly, open multisession disk shows only last open session.
You have to close the disk to see data from all sessions.

#5

Thanks for the info J J.

Is there a quick way to close/finalize the CD without having to write further data?

#6

I don’t have multisession disks available for testing; but it should be simply inserting disk, and select “write data and close disk” and then burn.

#7

Hello,

I have not done precise testing for this, but I believe it to be a real bug, based on your experience and the fact that last week I burnt a multisession disk with 2 sessions (on the first there was auto run) and after the second session was burnt, no auto run to be found.

I have submitted this into the bug tracking system it will be known as but #615

#8

What are the settings used in the Settings>Multisession tab?

#9

I added some screen shots to bug 615 and log file,

the options I used are
*Create/Continue multisession media – Checked
*Keep volume name and description – Checked

*Import existing data with the following rule – Checked

*Always replace file (use file in the selection)

#10

Settings for the Multisession Tab were:

  • All optionschecked
    First selection box (re multisession)
  • Ask what to do
Second selection box (re import rule)
  • Always replace file (with new one to be burnt)

Once burn was selected box popped up with dialog to the effect
Yes - all files will be erased
No - files will be added, nothing erased.
Cancel
I selected No

Problem occurs on CD-RW but also on CD-R
Files are missing because they are not being linked properly from first session to second session.

If I mount the burned CD in (say) MagicISO I can select session 1 and see all the files from the first burn. If I select session 2 then not all files from session 1 are listed.

This occurrs wether disk is left open or finalized.

(Also, ther does not seem to be a way to just close/finalize a multisession CD in CopyToDVD without changing settings and burning additional files)

I have duplicated this using just 20 jpg files on firts burn, with an additional 4 sor the second session. 2 of the first session files “disappear” from the listing of the second session.
