The ATIP hiding utility is unlikely to have any noticable affect on the games playability. However as it is a running program it will consume a small amount of system resource. If you are that close to minimum spec. that you need every last ounce of processor power then you can live without it, but as ww1912 says, you'll need to play from a regular CD- or DVD-ROM drive.
The other downside to using an ATIP hiding utility is that the latest SafeDisk version [2.9.x] has, as part of the guard module, a piece of code that checks for the existance of the ATIP hiding utility and will refuse to authenticate the game [even the originals ] if it is running.
