Copying DVD movie files to CD

I have a dvd with the following files:

VIDEO_TS (folder)

  • VIDEO_TS.BUP 12KB
  • VIDEO_TS.IFO 12KB
  • VIDEO_TS.VOB 36KB
  • VTS_01_0.BUP 44KB
  • VTS_01_0.IFO 44KB
  • VTS_01_1.VOB 623,502KB
  • VTS_02_0.BUP 44KB
  • VTS_02_0.IFO 44KB
  • VTS_02_1.VOB 567,540KB

I would like to copy this DVD to 2 CDs. The layout and size of the files leads me to believe they were originally taken from 2 CDs. How can I go about doing this? Can I just copy certain files to CDs, or do I need software to do some converting?

If you want to make them compatible with some (not all) standalone DVD players, you should reauthor them as SVCD.

There are a bunch of conversion guides here: http://www.doom9.org
Also, use the search function here at CDF or google it and you should find a bunch of relevant threads.

You need Intervideo DVD Copy. The files that comprise the movie can be converted either to VCD(2 CDs), SVCD(4 CDs) or DivX(1 CD). These are compressed forms of mpeg files. Just identify the folder containing the files, identify your CD or DVD burner, highlight the VCD button, hit the burn button and sit back. The software will ask for the second CD when the first one is done. When you play them, the DVD player will also ask for the second disk to finish the movie.
