Can I burn a double layer DVD with my current normal Sony DVD writer or do I need some other writer to write a double layer DVD? I have heard that normal DVD writers can not write double layer DVDs. Please inform.
Tell us the model of Sony that you have and we will be able to tell you if it can use DL media.
Or you can run Nero Info Tool, http://www.nero.com/enu/support-nero8-tools-utilities.html
and see for yourself. It is free to download and use.
Here is an example of what you will see from Nero Info Tool. You’ll notice that the boxes next to the DVD-R DL and DVD+R DL have check marks in them, indicating that this drive can burn DL media.
By the way, the only reliable DL media is made by Mitsubishi and sold under the Verbatim brand.
The Verbatim DL made in Singapore seems to be more consistent than the Indian made ones, so keep that in mind too.
