I/O Inerconnect was kind enough to send us their latest drive. Actually it's so new that it's just a pre-release sample and everything we got with the drive refers to another model, you will for sure notice this during the first pages of this review. The drive is a feature filled external drive, first it's a dual format DVD-Writer based on a BTC DRW1004IM writer, and second it's a flash card reader supporting all the flash card formats currently on the market, and least it also have a built in two-port USB2.0 Hub. All this sounds great, so let's continue with the review to see if it really lives up to our expectations.

Also thanks to Memorex for being so generous and providing some of the media used in this review.

And here are the additional specifications for the added mediagear stuff:

  • External USB 2.0 case with built in USB 2.0 HUB with 2 powered USB 2.0 ports.
  • 9in4 flash reader built into the front supporting these flash card formats:
    • Compact flash type 1 and 2
    • IBM Microdrive
    •  Smart Media
    • MultiMedia card
    • Secure Digital
    • Memory Stick
    • Memory Stick PRO

To us it seems like an ideal solution if you have a laptop with limited storage space and a digital camera or two. You may transfer the images from the flash card with this drive and when the hard drive fills up you may just write them to a CD or DVD. But let us continue and see how it really performs by putting it through several extensive tests.
